BRADENTON - David Schopfer had just 17 rushing yards when Bradenton Christian faced a pivotal fourth down. The Panthers' fourth-quarter drive looked like it would stall at their 40. Then the senior running back took a handoff to the left side of the field, busting off a 14-yard carry to prolong an eventual scoring drive.
That possession, along with some defensive turnovers, vaulted BCS (2-0) past Keswick Christian 30-6 on a rain-filled Friday afternoon.
Colton Goodwin provided the punch, while Schopfer offered speedy elusiveness. The duo combined for 124 of the Panthers' 220 total yards.
And after Schopfer's fourth-and-inches conversion, Myles Braxton-Johnson connected with Goodwin on a 21-yard pass to offset two penalties that gave BCS a red zone opportunity with a 16-6 lead.
Goodwin erased any late Crusader heroics when he picked up a fumble and rumbled his way for a 6-yard touchdown to end the fourth-quarter flurry.
