Van Jones "is an avowed, self-avowed radical revolutionary communist." Glenn Beck, Sept. 1 on his radio program

The ruling: BARELY TRUE
There's little question that President Barack Obama's former so-called green jobs czar was an avowed communist. In 1992 he was swept up in mass arrests while protesting the acquittal of police officers accused of beating Rodney King. Afterward, he says he went from "rowdy nationalist" to "communist." But by 2002, he began transforming his politics and work, and later became a leading, cheerleader for transitioning the U.S. economy to green jobs. Beck would have been on solid ground if he said Jones used to be a communist. We found ample evidence that he now believes capitalism is the best force for the social change he is seeking. So there's truth to Beck's claim in that Jones was a communist, but it's apparent he isn't any longer, as Beck suggests.
