PEDESTRIAN HIT TWICE, KILLED ON 4TH ST.

ST. PETERSBURG

A pedestrian was killed early Saturday after being struck by a van and then run over by a second vehicle.

The victim was crossing Fourth Street N near Ninth Avenue about 2 a.m. and was struck by the outside mirror and left front portion of a Ford van. The pedestrian was knocked to the ground in the median lane. The driver, John Dinsmore, 61, of St. Petersburg stopped in the curb lane.

Jonathan Cotterill, 32, of Zephyrhills, saw the van stopped by the side of the road and pulled into the median lane, unaware that the pedestrian was lying on the pavement. The front of Cotterill's Toyota sport utility vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was taken to Bayfront Medical Center and pronounced dead at 2:34 a.m.

Police are attempting to reach the victim's family.
