A 35-year-old man was arrested Sunday on charges of hitting a police officer who came to question him about a robbery, according to a report from the Dade City police department.

Rudolph J. Hicks, of Dade City, was picked up Sunday as a suspect in a robbery that occurred earlier in the day, the report said.

Hicks tried to flee from the officer, who attempted to use a Taser on Hicks but missed, according to the report. A fight ensued in which Hicks struck the officer multiple times in the arms and upper body before he was placed in a headlock and eventually handcuffed, the report said.

Hicks was charged with battery and using a weapon on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and robbery, and remained Monday at the Land O'Lakes Jail with bail set at $20,150.

2 homes burglarized; man admits to crimes

A 22-year-old man was arrested Sunday and charged with breaking into two houses and pawning several hundred dollars worth of stolen DVDs.

Brendan Thomas, 22, of Palm Harbor, is accused of breaking into two unoccupied homes on Rock Royal Drive early Friday and stealing $17,500 worth of jewelry and computer equipment from one home and a 2005 Toyota truck, 32-inch TV and an iPod, among other items, from another, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities also said he pawned about 100 stolen DVDs on several occasions last week at a Holiday pawn shop.

According to the report, Thomas admitted to the crimes and told deputies he has a "crack" problem.

Thomas faces four charges of dealing in stolen property, two charges of burglary and one charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle.

He remained at the Land O'Lakes jail Monday with bail set at $31,500.
