MORNEAU OUT FOR SEASON

MINNEAPOLIS - Justin Morneau's season is over because of a stress fracture in his lower back.

The Twins first baseman, who won the 2006 AL MVP, was batting .274 with a .363 on-base percentage and a .516 slugging percentage despite a severe second-half slump. His injury was diagnosed Monday.

Minnesota is chasing the Tigers in the AL Central but has suffered through a rash of injuries.
