USF: RB FORD BACK

USF coach Jim Leavitt said that junior RB Mike Ford did everything right in practice in the weeks during his two-game suspension for violating team rules.

But Leavitt said he doesn't know how much Ford, a Sarasota High grad, will play Saturday against visiting Charleston Southern.

"(Senior) Mo Plancher had a good game and (junior) Aston Samuels is awfully good and (freshman) Lindsey Lamar is playing well, so he's got some guys he has to compete with," Leavitt said after Monday's practice.

Plancher has four touchdowns this season and rushed for 115 yards Saturday in a victory over Western Kentucky. Lamar had a touchdown in the opener against Wofford.

Bulls sit out: Leavitt said WR/backup QB Evan Landi and sophomore CB Quenton Washington did not practice.

Landi left Saturday's game with a shoulder injury suffered while catching a pass from Matt Grothe. Washington is struggling with an ankle injury from Saturday, another problem for a depleted secondary that's without starting S Jerrell Young, who broke his arm in the opener.

Notable: USF's game at FSU on Sept. 26 will begin at noon (ESPNU). ... Senior WR Colby Erskin, a former walk-on and Seminole graduate, will wear No. 10 in Saturday's game in tribute to former Bulls RB Keeley Dorsey, who died during a team conditioning workout in 2007. ... Asked what he saw on film from Saturday's game, Leavitt said: "A lot of guys playing with great effort, but we're just not playing real smart. That will come, hopefully. On (special teams) we have to return punts. We've got talent. We just need to correct the things we're doing." ... USF practiced for an hour in the Sun Dome on Monday night because of inclement weather.
