MAN ACCUSED OF POSSESSING CHILD PORN

CLEARWATER

A 42-year-old restaurant cook was charged with 11 counts of possessing child pornography after detectives determined he uploaded images to a social networking site, Clearwater police said. Michael M. Miller was arrested at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home at 1935 West Skyline Drive. The Clearwater Police Department Crimes Against Children and Families Unit began investigating Miller on July 31, when it received a tip Miller had posted child pornography photographs to his profile page on a social networking Web site. Police declined to identify the networking site. After obtaining a search warrant, detectives seized two computer towers and "miscellaneous electronic storage devices," police said. A review of Miller's computer revealed several images of child pornography. Additional charges are pending following a forensic analysis, police said. Miller washeld in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $110,000 bail.

Drug store robber whips pharmacist

A 28-year-old pregnant pharmacist was recovering Tuesday after an armed robber hit her in the head with his gun and stole pain medication from a Clearwater Beach Walgreens on Monday afternoon. Clearwater police said the robber hurdled the pharmacy counter at 660 Gulfview Blvd. before attacking Monika Girgis of Belleair Bluffs. She and a technician stood back as the robber grabbed a "large quantity of pain medication" and fled the store. A surveillance video shows the suspect, a thin, white man in a dark hat, gray T-shirt and baggy jeans, jump the counter about 4:45 p.m. Police estimated that the man, who remained at large Tuesday, was 30 years old and 6 feet 2 inches tall. Girgis was treated at a hospital and released.

Husband charged in machete attack

A 46-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, accused of attacking his wife with a machete, authorities said. Robert F. Crowell, of 3300 Alt. 19 N, Lot 37, was charged with aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon in the attack, which happened around 2:30 a.m. According to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrest report, Crowell sliced his wife's neck and hand with the 2-foot-long machete and threatened to kill her. The woman, who was able to get away from Crowell, was treated by paramedics for cuts, the report said. Crowell was arrested at his home and taken to the Pinellas County Jail, where he was held without bail.
