Police charged a St. Petersburg man Wednesday with trying to kill a man during a drug deal gone wrong.
Kenneth Washington, 29, who also goes by Kenneth Bishop, shot Steven Watson in the back of the head on Aug. 24, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Watson, 25, who survived, told deputies three men came to his house on 37th Street N in St. Petersburg because he planned to buy marijuana from one of them. Watson told investigators he had set up a $1,400 drug transaction, and when he couldn't come up with more money than that, Washington decided to kill him. Watson tried to jump out of the bathroom window, but got stuck just before being shot in the back of the head, he said.
Washington, of 5536 66th Lane, went to the emergency room at Manatee Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound in his right foot. Police questioned him, and he admitted he was shot in St. Petersburg, according to the warrant.
Washington is charged with attempted murder and home invasion robbery and is in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
