CIANA, Mary 90, formerly of New Port Richey, died peacefully on Aug. 30, 2009. Born Dec. 7, 1918 in Jamaica, NY, she was the daughter of James & Mary Clark. Philip, her husband of 58 years preceded her in death. In her youth, Mary was a professional dancer and teacher to children for over a decade. DICKEY, Robert "Bob" a resident of Dunedin for over 20 years, died in Fairbanks, AK on June 27, 2009. Born in Ohio, Bob was a proud volunteer for the City of Dunedin. He and his wife Barbara moved to Alaska to be near family several years ago. Bob graduated with honors from The University of Ohio, and from Ohio State University with a Masters Degree in Education. Awarded for his basketball and baseball skills, he later coached winning teams in both sports in Ohio. He was a Teacher, Coach, and Sales Representative for the Industrial Pump business. Bob served in the Army Air Force, WWII. He received The Lifetime Achievement Award from Lancaster, OH. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Fairbanks where a memorial service was held in July. FAVA, June R. 83, recently of Naples, died on Sept. 14, 2009. She had lived in New York City, moved to Groton Long Point, CT in 1983 and then to Oldsmar in 1995 where she resided until coming to Naples. A graduate of the NY Institute of Finance in 1962, she worked as a financial analyst in NY until 1983. She is survived by her devoted husband, Albert A. Fava and her nephew, Robert Gerolamo, both of Naples. FERRIS, Mary W. "Betty" 78, of St. Petersburg died peacefully at home, Monday, Sept 14, 2009 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family who sincerely thank Suncoast Hospice for her excellent care. Betty was born Aug. 4, 1931 in Little Rock, AR. She was a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and received her Master's degree in Library Science from Emory University in Atlanta. She was a member of the charter staff of the library at USF in Tampa and later worked to establish the book collection at the campus in St. Petersburg. She was an avid quilter and tireless volunteer for numerous charitable causes. She was honored with the 2005 McAdams Peace Award for her many years of dedicated service to the children at the Happy Workers Daycare Center. She and her husband Harold would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 17, 2009. Other survivors include her brother William Wade (Margaret) of Bristol, TN; daughter Susan Booth (Todd) of Atlanta; son Wade (Jamie) of Clearwater and 3 grandsons. LaBARGE, Norman Joseph "Jack" 84, peacefully passed away on Aug. 21, 2009 in Chandler, AZ. In 2004 he moved to Largo, and enjoyed weekly outings with his family. Jack loved dancing and listening to his friends sing. He is prece-ded in death by his parents, Oscar and Emelda (Thouin) LaBarge; his wife Joyce (Lessard) and brothers: Rene, Lester and Raymond LaBarge. LAVANTURE, Robert Edwin 87, of Elkhart, IN, formerly of Clearwater, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009. He was born April 27, 1922 in Pottstown, PA to Herbert and Helen (Miller) Lavanture and married Pauline Mae Lutz in 1944. She preceded him in death. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert W. (Margaret) Lavanture of Naples, FL and Richard A. (Marla) Lavanture of Bristol, IN; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy of Pottstown, PA. Mr. Lavanture retired as co-founder of LaVanture Products, Inc. where he had worked since 1969. He graduated from Albright College, Reading, PA with a business degree. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the Marshall Islands and received the Soldiers Medal. He was a member of the National Council of YMCA since 1946; the American National Red Cross Association since 1950; Elk's Lodge; Heritage United Methodist Church, Clearwater; he was active in the United States Masters Swimming Association; Member of the Long Aquatic Center, Clearwater,and the YMCA of the Suncoast, Palm Harbor. MATKOVICH, Retired Lt Colonel Ludwig D. of Seminole, died Sept. 15, 2009. He was 82 years old. Colonel Matkovich, a native of San Francisco, attended the University of San Francisco and was a Life Member of the California Scholarship Federation. He enlisted in the Army in 1944, served as a Sergeant, a Warrant Officer, and was then commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Colonel Matkovich served on active duty until 1969. He was an Escort Officer and Bodyguard to Lt Colonel A. F.. Volchkov and Major General I. T. Nikitchenko, Justices who represented the USSR at the International Military (War Crimes) Tribunal in Nuremberg (Nuernberg), 1945-46. A multi-linguist, Colonel Matkovich served in Army Counter Intelligence and Intelligence Collection assignments for 21 years, primarily in Europe. He also served as an Infantry company commander with the 7th and 30th Infantry Regiments of the 3rd Infantry Division, and commander of the 44th Company, The School Brigade, The Infantry School, Fort Benning, GA. His final assignment was as Commandant of the U.S. Army Pacific Intelligence School (Okinawa) that trained military officers from many Asian Armed Forces. His awards include The Legion of Merit. Colonel Matkovich was a member of the St. Justin's Roman Catholic Church, Largo He was a member of the St. Petersburg Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the Association of Counter Intelligence Corps Veterans, and he was a life Member of the American Philatelic Society (APS). Colonel Matkovich was married to Judy Virginia Sparks of Ashland, KY, who pre-deceased him in 1962. His older brother, Vince, died in 2005. Prior to coming to Florida in 1990, he lived with his children in Los Altos, CA for 20 years. Colonel Matkovich is survived by his daughter, Kathleen, of Mount Laurel, NJ, his son, Ken, of San Jose, CA, his son-in-law, Jim Fitzpatrick, of Mount Laurel, NJ, and his sister-in-law, Helen Matkovich and her family of Grass Valley, CA. SAYERS, Robert A. "Pip" 39, of Spring Hill, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009. He was born in Brentwood Essex, United Kingdom and moved to the United States in 1998 and moved here 6 years ago from California. He began working for the City of Clermont Police Department in July of 2007 and joined the Motorcycle Unit in April 2009. Robert was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed Fishing Biking, Mountain Biking, his dumb dogs and even dumber cat. SEPESSY, Michael 54, of Belleair Beach, passed away gracefully on Saturday Sept. 12, 2009, after waging a valiant battle against cancer, with his family by his side. Mike was Reclamation Department Manager for the City of Largo for over 20 years. He was a collector of Vintage Ford muscle cars and enjoyed the natural flora of Florida. Mike moved to Florida in 1985 from Cherry Hill, NJ. Mike married his childhood sweetheart, Anita Gomez in 1979.
