Shane Davis kicked the extra point after Chadd Pierson's 10-yard scoring run in overtime tied the score to give visiting Gaither its first win of the season, 15-14 over Wharton.
Wharton (1-2) took a 14-8 lead on its first play of overtime, Ryan Hatter's 10-yard pass to Xavier Fisher. But David Farman's extra point was blocked.
Pierson followed with his touchdown as the Cowboys (1-1) also scored on their first play of overtime.
In the second quarter, Gaither linebacker Levon Brookings scored on a 25-yard interception return on a deflected Hatter pass. A pass from Zach Condon to Josh Scarberry on the two-point conversion put the Cowboys up 8-0.
Wharton tied the score with 3:24 remaining in regulation on Shane McEwen's 1-yard run on fourth down and Hatter's pass to Marvin Murray on the two-point conversion. The score was set up by a blocked punt that Terrence Hicks returned to the Gaither 12.
The Cowboys (1-1) managed only 92 yards of offense. Wharton had three turnovers (two fumbles, one interception) and committed 14 penalties totaling 130 yards.
The first half was frustrating for the Wildcats, who went scoreless despite moving the ball across midfield on their first six series. They also limited Gaither to one first down in the half.
