Gymnastics clubs from around Tampa Bay got their seasons going last weekend at the Aloha Invitational/Judges Cup in Tampa. There were two local gymnastics clubs that participated in the event, LaFleur's Gymnastics in Largo and the Tampa Bay Turners in St. Petersburg.
LaFleur's had gymnasts in Levels 3, 4 and 5. Level 5 first-place gymnasts were Hannah Nestler (vault, bars), Eleni Psaltis (beam), Katelyn Puttick (vault, bars), Lauren Palaganas (vault), Katie Jelenc (vault), Alexa Matessich (beam, all-around) and Taylor VanHaerents (bars). Level 4 first-place gymnasts were Madison Swenson (vault, floor, all-around), Sydney Shannon (floor), Jordyn Condreay (bars), Elizabeth Clevenger (floor, all-around), Krista Marrocco (vault, beam), Emma Williams (beam, all-around), Savannah Taylor (bars, floor), Madelyn Sarlo (floor), Brooke Gephart (beam), Shelby Payne (beam), Kennady Jones (vault) and Ashleigh Rao (beam). First-place gymnasts for Level 3 were Laura Silverboard (all-around), Sienna Piazza (beam), Rachel Silverboard (vault), Sydney Noser (floor), Sydney Gray (bars), Jessica Mutnansky (beam, floor, all-around), Nicole Griffith (bars), Kaleigh Williamson (vault), Emily Edwards (bar, floor, all-around), GraceAnn Toups (beam) and Ke'Ara Clayton (vault).
The Tampa Bay Turners had gymnasts in Levels 2-5. Level 2 first-place finishers were Emma Devine (vault, floor, all-around), Meira Kowalski (bars), MacKenna Kunitzer (beam), Kylie Kreis (all-around), Hannah Alstott (floor), Hailey Daniele (vault), Emily Boyd (bars, beam, floor, all-around) and Erin Reynolds (vault). Level 3 winners were McKenna O'Reilly (all-around), Sarah Mixson (beam), Kelly Barszcz (vault, floor, all-around) and Andrea Romero (bars, beam). Level 4 winners were Alyssa Scott (vault, beam, floor, all-around), Shayla Snow (bars), Alex Bingham (bars), Jacqueline Hebert (bars, floor, all-around) and Sierra Ojeda (beam). Level 5 first-place winners were Haley Hawthorne (floor), Samantha Marvel (vault), Lauren Lapeter (beam), Reanna Capra (bars) and Bonnie Barber (vault).
Charly Miller of St. Petersburg competed in the Marshall and Sterling League National finals last weekend in Saugerties, N.Y. Miller was awarded the Grand National Champion High Point Award at the event. She also finished seventh out of 70 riders in the Hudson Junior Equitation Classic in New York. Miller rode her horse, Coverboy, in all of the events.
East Lake Woodlands held a fall NTRP tournament on Sept.11-13. Patrick Boyd was the men's 3.0 singles winner, Mason Hubsher was the 3.5 winner, Enrique Vela was the 4.0 winner and Joe Hassani won the 4.5 championship. On the women's side, Chantal Igherighe won the 3.0 singles and Karen Killen won the 4.0 singles.
- The Clearwater Local Fall Championships were held on Sept. 12-14. The boys 18 singles winner was top seed Clay Crawford. The 16 singles winner was Connor Defiore, the 14 winner was Juan Munoz, the 12 winner was Brent van der Ven and the 10 winner was Dilan Scargle. On the girls side, the 18 winner was Anastasia Nefedova, the 16 winner was Natalie Boruk, the 14 winner was Isabella Krupa, the 12 winner was Jessica Stefan and the 10 winner was Margeaux Phipps.
The Tides Women's Golf Association in Seminole held a low net tournament on Sept. 15. Sandy Hartman was the winner with 64. Kathy Davis was second with 72 and Judy McNamee was third with 73.
- The County Golf Association's latest tournament was held at East Lake Woodland's South Course on Sept. 14. Juice Ahern and Mark Wheaton were the regular division gross winners with 66. The senior division gross winners were Jim Montali and Stan Lewis with 71. The overall net winners were Buddy Green and Greg McDonell with 57.
