A Tampa judge decided Monday that she will continue to preside over the case of a man accused of killing a Tampa police officer.
Neither prosecutors nor the defense objected to Hillsborough Circuit Judge Denise Pomponio, whose husband, Peter, retired from the Tampa Police Department in 2004 after 25 years.
Pomponio raised the issue herself to ensure that neither side found her ties to Tampa police to be a conflict in presiding over the first-degree murder case of Humberto Delgado.
At the next hearing on Oct. 16, Pomponio is expected to hear defense motions attacking the indictment.
Delgado, 34, is accused of shooting police Cpl. Mike Roberts last month. Roberts stopped to question Delgado as Delgado pushed a shopping cart along N Nebraska Avenue in Sulphur Springs.
