BIRDSALL, David "Bud" 79, passed away peacefully from this life on Sept. 20, 2009 at Tuscany Hospice House in Summerfield, FL. He was born in Staten Island, NY. He was a fireman with the New York State Fire Department. Bud moved to Ocala from St. Petersburg, in 2002. He was a veteran of the Marines serving during the Korean Conflict. Bud was a member of 125 American Legion of St. Petersburg, the Moose Lodge 2356 of Dunnellon, and the VFW Post #4712 of Simpson, PA. BOTHFELD, Virginia Chandler 1920-2009, of Gulf Breeze, FL died on Sept. 21. She is survived by her husband Rober; her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson Casey Chandler, Jeffie, and Sam of St. Petersburg, FL; daugher and son-in-law Trudy and John Harrington of Gastonia, NC; son Larry Chandler of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter Wendy Sasser of Woodland, WA; and sister Justine Bromirski of Hoosick Falls, NY, recently deceased. Born in Hoosick Falls, NY, Virginia grew up in Amherst, MA. After graduating from high school she attended Northfield Seminary in Northfield, MA for one year. She received a B.A. Degree in Romance Languages from Tufts University in Medford, MA and her M.A. Degree in Library Science from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. After living in Chicago, IL, for five and a half years, Virginia moved with her husband Arthur Chandler and family to St. Petersburg, FL. She began teaching English and Social Studies in 7th and 8th grades and continued for 23 years. At the same time she also worked at J.C. Penney nights. She was active in her church as well as various organization - Museum of Fine Arts, Woman's Service League, Florida Orchestra Guild, and P.E.O. She organized and started the alumane chapter of Alpha Omicrom Pi. In her leisure time she played bridge, read many books, went to the theatre, and did some traveling. A few years later, after her husband died, Virginia married Robert Bothfeld, a college classmate, and moved to Gulf Breeze, FL. She continued her interest in various organizations - South Pinellas County Retired Educators Association, Gulf Coast Friends, Gulf Isle Neighbors, Pensacola Little Theatre Guild, Pensacola Symphony Orchestra Guild, Gulf Breeze Historical Society, Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library, Pensacola Council of the NavyLeague of the United States, and P.E.O. Virginia and her husband spend their summers in Cabot, VT. They also did a lot of traveling both in the U.S. and abroad. there will be a graveside service for the family at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in St. Petersburg, FL. A memorial service will be held at Gulf Breeze Prebyterian Church in Gulf Breeze on Sept. 20. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. SIMAS, Eugene 91, Ocala, FL, passed away on Sept. 12, 2009, at Suncoast Hospice Foundation in St. Petersburg. After the passing of his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Schobert Simas, in 2000, he lived independently until the last three weeks of his life. A veteran of WWII, he served in Africa and Italy, along with his beloved Dorothy, who served as an evacuation nurse during the war. An entertainer all his life, Gene sang with and headlined bands under the stage name Gene Simms in the Northeast, Detroit, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Miami where he made his home for 40 years until 1991, when he and Dorothy moved to Ocala. A seeker of Wisdom, Truth, and Beauty, he is survived by a brother, Edwin J. Simas, Sr. of Boston; a daughter, Ann Simas Schoenacher of St. Petersburg; a son, Paul Simas of Miami; grandsons, Naren Schoenacher of Brevard, NC and Jonathan Simas of Miami; and great-grandchildren Noah, Aria, and Quintin. SZENAS, James Joseph 79, of Pinellas Park, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Hospice House Woodside. Born in Leechburg, PA, he came here in 1968, from Washington, D.C. He graduated from University of Connecticut and Trinity University in San Antonio, TX with a Master's in Psychology. He was a United States Air Force veteran. He expanded and grew Goodwill Industries, throughout the state of Florida as well as establishing the first Goodwill in Hungary. He was inducted into the Goodwill Hall of Fame. He touched and enhanced the lives of many disabled people. He was a long time, active member of Oakhurst United Methodist Church, Seminole. His hobby was wood working; he was a member of the St. Petersburg Rotary Club and volunteered at Largo Medical Center. He was preceded in death by parents Julius and Mary Szenas; brothers, Jules and Alex and sister, Louise Moorhead. He is survived by sons Mark (Cheryl) Szenas, Tampa, and Gregory "Grab" Szenas, Clearwater; grandson John Alexander Szenas, Tampa; his former wife Ginger Szenas, Homosassa; his sweetheart Eva Schmidt, Largo; and 5 nieces and nephews. TROMBLEY, Richard Earl "Dick," 69, of Land O' Lakes, passed away Sept. 18, 2009. He was born in Mt. Clemens, MI. He was a U.S. Army veteran, computer repair tech and retired from the Macomb Co. School Board in Michigan. He was a former Post Commander of the American Legion Post 4 in MI. He moved to Florida in 1998 and enjoyed playing golf in his retirement. TURNMYRE, Shirley Kathleen 78, of St. Pete Beach, passed away peacefully at Hospice Woodside on Sept. 18, 2009. She was born in Danville, PA on Feb. 18, 1931. Shirley lived and worked as a registered nurse in Winter Park, for over 30 years. In 1999, she moved to St. Pete Beach. Shirley was an active member of the Pass-A-Grille Woman's Club, the Questers Club and was a past member of the Pass-A-Grille Yacht Club. Shirley enjoyed monthly dinner club. She was affiliated with St. Albins Church and enjoyed working at Church thrift store, The Attic. She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Turnmyre and her parents, Ruth and Gerald Coates. Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah & Gary Cannon of St. Pete Beach; grandson and wife, Timothy and Stefanie Cannon of Anchorage, AK; sister & brother-in-law Janie and Bob Pierce of Williamsport, PA; brother & sister-in-law Gerald and Shirley Coates of Danville, PA and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, at 11 am at Beach Memorial Chapel along with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 10 am and a reception following the celebration at the Pass-A-Grille Woman's Club. VETROVEC, Ella Nechvatal of Seminole.Our wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2009 at the age of 96. We mourn the loss, however celebrate all the unforgettable times and great memories she provided. Ella was born in Chicago, IL on Sept. 8. 1913 and raised her family in Cicero, IL. Ella was a long time employee of the Troy Department Store and when she retired in the 70's she moved to St Petersburg. Ella was a lifetime member of the St Petersburg Czech Club where she was the treasurer for 18 years and was involved in a vast number of celebratory functions and activities. Ella was predeceased in death by her 1st husband, Charles Nechvatal; 2nd husband, Albert Vetrovec; brother, Joe Kuttenberg and son, Capt. Charles J. Nechvatal (USN Ret). Left to cherish her memory, her daughter, Nancie Mishlove (Stuart); daughter-in-law, Carol Nechvatal; her grandchildren, Debbie Brown (Mike), David Nechvatal (Allyson), Mark Nechvatal (Teresa), Steve Nechvatal and Larry Mishlove; her great- grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Katie, Christopher, Sarah, Zachary and Griffin. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

WILCOX, Dorothy L. 91, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wilcox; and her sister, Virginia Janssen. She is greatly missed by her sons, Richard Wilcox of Lititz, PA and Raymond Wilcox and his wife Peggy of The Woodlands, TX; four grandchildren, Tod (Tracy) of Lititz, PA, Jennifer (Craig) of Tucson, AZ, Kim Rae of Austin, TX and Kristin of Charlotte, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Sierra and Hunter. Dotty, as she was known by her friends, was born in Nashua, NH and did her elementary and high school education in Leonia, NJ. She attended Syracuse University studying Home Economics and later Pratt Institute specializing in clothing design and construction. She was an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Married to Robert in 1942, they moved to Coventry, CT where Dotty taught in a private day school and also began raising their family. In 1962, the family moved to Indian Shores, and Dotty has lived in Pinellas County ever since. She has been a member of the Morton Plant Hospital Auxiliary for 24 years, donating 3500 hours to the sewing room, and was an active resident at Regency Oaks where she was well known for her ingenious and spirited parties, her unlimited costume closet and her infectious laugh. There will be a graveside service Wednesday, Sept. 23, 10:30 at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and a reception celebrating her life will be held at the Town Hall in Regency Oaks from 12.
