THE WEEK AHEAD

Some of the can't-miss events in the county:

Cross country, Cougar Invitational at John Chesnut Park, 4 p.m. today: The junior varsity boys and girls race before the varsity runners. The varsity girls are at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 6. This meet is for all 16 public school teams in the county. Last year, the host Countryside boys won their first Cougar Invitational title and appear to be the favorite this year.

Swimming, Northeast at Countryside, 6 p.m. Wednesday: The Cougars, who have competed in just two dual meets this season, get a good test before the conference meet against the Vikings. Countryside also welcomes the return of Melanie Margalis and Jonathan Taddeo, who were on recruiting trips.

Volleyball, East Lake (4-1) at Palm Harbor University (4-2), 7:15 p.m. Wednesday: East Lake shocked PHU a couple weeks ago with an easier-than-expected three-game sweep. The Hurricanes, however, have the all-so-important homecourt advantage for the revenge match.

Swimming, PCAC meet at Long Center, 9 a.m. Saturday: This is the conference meet for the county's 16 public schools. Last year's meet was one of the best with a combined eight boys and girls records set in individual or relay events.
