Navy Seaman Sarah M. Kinder recently completed Navy basic training at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Kinder completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Kinder is a 2009 graduate of Mitchell High School in New Port Richey and the granddaughter of Carlene Lightbody of Spring Hill.

Clubs and Organizations

Members of the Kiwanis Club of the Nature Coast helped at the recent Teen Life Rally as one of their service projects targeting children and the community. The rally was in the parking lot of the Stage West Community Playhouse.

Recreation and Sports

The West Hernando Athletic Club for Seniors is a softball league for individuals age 55 and older who want to participate in organized sports in a friendly and competitive manner. The 60-game schedule runs from September through April, and the playoffs are in May. Joe Martinez is the commissioner.
