The Hernando Builders Association's 2009 Fall Parade of Homes will kick off Oct. 24 and run through Nov. 8.

Model hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Visitors will be able to view 20 energy-efficient models by builders in Hernando and Citrus counties.

A map with locations and contact information for all of the models will be published in the Times on Oct. 24, as well as online at hernandobuilders.com.

The event will be sponsored in part by Progress Energy and the St. Petersburg Times.

All nine Hernando County Walgreens stores are helping Gifts from Home send treats to troops serving overseas. The items for October: Reese's peanut butter cups and Snickers candy bars.

Each month, Walgreens selects an item and asks customers to purchase it and place it into a collection box. Each store also has a display beside the collection box that features the top 10 items requested by the troops. Those items can also be placed in the collection box.

Linda Kidwell of Gifts from Home will pick up the items and pack them in care packages heading to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Who's news

Dr. Michael A. Pikos, a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and founder of Coastal Jaw Surgery and the Pikos Implant Institute, recently lectured to doctors on dental implants and bone grafting in Monaco.

Oak Hill Hospital, 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill, has announced its "stars" - associates of the month - for September. Each month, an associate representing each of the hospital's three areas of service - nursing, ancillary and support - is chosen in a process that involves nominations and voting by the staff.

The September stars are Jonathan Rivera, Paula Brown and Jared Hanlon.

Rivera, a certified nursing assistant and medical technician, joined Oak Hill Hospital in May. He is assigned to telemetry but occasionally helps in the emergency department. Rivera lives in Spring Hill.

Brown, a registered respiratory therapist, joined Oak Hill's respiratory care department about a year ago. She and her husband, Jack Billings, live in Ridge Manor. Brown has a son and a daughter.

Hanlon, a registered nurse, joined Oak Hill in February 2008. He works on the second floor in telemetry as well as in the progressive care unit. Hanlon and his wife, Leslie Flynt, live in Spring Hill.

A fundraiser to benefit Shiloh Problem Solvers' after-school program will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Chick-fil-A, 13143 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill.

Haircuts will be given for a donation of $20. All proceeds will be presented to Linda Kidwell of Gifts from Home, with 100 percent of the money helping fill holiday boxes being sent to military men and women serving overseas.
