On Sept. 19, the Knights of Columbus conducted its second-annual Father McGivney Awards Banquet at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for each of the five local councils.

Participating were: St. Frances Cabrini Council 13209, St. Theresa Council 11877, St. Anthony Council 6800, St. Jude Council 6383 and St. Joan of Arc Council 11317.

Each parish nominated one person to receive the Michael J. McGivney Award as Catholic of the Year. Since St. Jude Council doesn't have its own parish, it adopted St. Mary's Church in Masaryktown.

Notre Dame Catholic School in Spring Hill presented the McGivney Teacher of the Year award. The recipient was chosen by the students. The master of ceremony for the evening was Sir Knight Allen Thompson, district deputy of District 26.

The Catholic of the Year award for St. Frances Cabrini was presented to Patricia Arndt by Father Richard Jankowski. St. Theresa's award was presented to Nancy Dougherty by Father James McAteer.

The recipient for St. Anthony's council was Linda Chiappetta, presented by Father Craig Morley. The St. Joan of Arc award went to Frank Fonzo, presented by Father Raymond O'Neal.

St. Jude's council presented its award to Susan Cook, a member of St. Mary's Church, Our Lady of Sorrows; it was presented by Salvatore Rotella, St. Jude's grand knight.

The Michael J. McGivney Award for Teacher of the Year was presented to Karen Grover by Sister Eileen Marie Woodbury, principal of Notre Dame Catholic School.

After the ceremony, refreshments were served, compliments of St. Joan of Arc Knights of Columbus Council 11317.
