A.J. BURNETT: After the right-hander had no-decisions in his first three postseason starts, this is why the Yankees signed him to an $82.5 million, five-year deal this past offseason. Burnett's most impressive stat? He threw a first-pitch strike to his first 11 batters. This from a man whose 97 walks in the regular season were the most in the American League, 18 more than any other pitcher.

JAYSON WERTH: With the Phillies up 1-0, the rightfielder led off the fourth with a single. Werth was successful on 20 of 23 steals during the regular season. But on an 0-and-2 pitch to Raul Ibanez, he strayed too far from the bag. Catcher Jose Molina threw to Mark Teixeira, who made the tag.
