History lessons of the day

1917 White Sox

Manager Joe Maddon delved into the details after learning the Sox - featuring Shoeless Joe Jackson, Ray Schalk, Eddie Cicotte and Happy Felsch and managed by Pants Rowlands - reached the World Series despite being no-hit twice that season (though on consecutive days). "I'm looking for that positive vibe, and there it was," Maddon said.

1906 Brooklyn Superbas

The forerunners to the Dodgers were the only other team before the Rays to be no-hit three times in a 12-month period - actually in the same season, May 1, Aug. 24 and Sept. 24. Two of their games, though, were seven innings, as part of doubleheaders, and one ended in a 1-1 tie. (The Superbas also threw a no-hitter that season.)
