A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firing his handgun during a lengthy dispute with another man over rent, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Steven Hargrove allegedly confronted Christopher Bishop at his home at 3840 Burwell Road three times early Friday, demanding that Bishop leave because he wasn't paying rent.
At the end of the third visit at about 2 a.m., deputies said, Hargrove told Bishop, "I've had enough. It's time for you to leave." Bishop told Hargrove that he couldn't leave the home or pay rent because of financial problems.
Hargrove then walked to his van, retrieved a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun and confronted Bishop at the gate, deputies said. Hargrove allegedly fired three shots into the ground near the gate where Bishop was standing, and then pointed the handgun at Bishop's forehead and asked, "Are you ready to die?"
Bishop ran back into the home and called 911.
Deputies took Hargrove into custody as he was walking back to his home down the street. When being told that he was being arrested, Hargrove told deputies, "The next time that (the deputies) come back to my house it will be for real."
Hargrove declined to elaborate.
Hargrove now faces a charge of aggravated assault. He was released from the Hernando County Jail after posting $5,000 bail.
