Shares of Tesla Motorsgained more than 40 percent in their public trading debut Tuesday after the electric car manufacturer raised more money than expected in its initial stock offering on the Nasdaq stock exchange. The stock soared $6.89, or 40.5 percent from its offering price, to close at $23.89 - marking the second-biggest first-day gain among initial public offerings this year. The offering raised $226.1 million after selling 13.3 million shares priced at $17 apiece. Above, CEO Elon Musk with a Tesla car.

U.S. home prices in April rose 0.8 percent, the first gain in seven months, according to the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller 20-city home price index released Tuesday. Eighteen of 20 cities showed price increases in April from March. Only Miami and New York recorded price declines. Nationally, prices have risen 3.8 percent from their April 2009 bottom. But they remain 30 percent below their July 2006 peak.

Wal-Mart Stores said Tuesday that Bill Simon, 50, is taking over as president and CEO of its U.S. operations, replacing Eduardo Castro-Wright, 55, who is shifting to lead the retailer's e-commerce unit Global.com and its global sourcing division. Simon has served as chief operating officer of Walmart U.S. and previously led global business development at Chili's Grill owner Brinker International.

Move over, greeting cards with sounds or smells. A new entry from American Greetings of Cleveland called Tasties plays to the sense of taste. Tasties come with dissolvable flavor strips meant to be eaten by recipients. For example, a card that features the image of a cupcake and a line about birthdays providing an excuse to eat cake comes with a cupcake-flavored insert. Other cards come with the flavors that include a doughnut and a margarita.
