ATKINSON, Mary P. 82, of Gulfport, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, Born in Brooklyn, NY, she came here in 1943 with her family. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1947. She was a realtor for 44 years. She co-founded the Gulfport Historical Society and the Gulfport Community Players. She was active a Girl Scout Leader, was on the Scout Hall Committee, and helped save Scout Hall. She began the first girl's softball league and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Gulfport Little League. She was given the Spirit of Gulfport Award in 2008 for her many contributions to the city and their committees. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Catharine Powell; sister, Catherine Hickman and brother-in-law, Keith Hickman. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lum; daughters, Mary DeAngelis, Susan Merryman and Cathy "Cookie" Cottrell; six grandchildren; seven great-grand-children; brother, John W. (Joanne) Powell and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 3 at 2 pm at ALife Tribute 5601 Gulfport Blvd. S. She was born in Florestine (Blacklack), NY on Dec. 28, 1930 to Thomas Colo & Lena (Bassney) Colo and married her late husband, Emmitt R. Coney in 1950. She worked for Monticello Greenhouses in NY for over 30 years. She moved to Hudson in 1987, where she leaves behind two sons, Emmitt E. HUMMEL, Helen G. 97, of Clearwater, passed away peacefully June 28, 2010, at Becket Lake Lodge in Clearwater. She was born in Van Wert, OH, in 1913 and lived there with her parents, Florence and Delmar Gamble, until her marriage to Ralph Hummel in 1938. Helen moved to St. Petersburg, in 1954 and finally to On Top of the World, Clearwater, in 1993. Helen was an excellent seamstress and loved designing and making most of her family's wardrobe, as well as her own. She served the community for over 10 years doing volunteer work at Neighborly Senior Services and was awarded for her service in 1991, when she was named volunteer of the year. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Janice, and son-in-law, Michael Patteson of Oakland, Maryland; her grandchildren, Leah and Curtis Patteson of Anchorage, AK, and Cheryl and Joshua Stidd of Garner, NC; and her great-grandsons, James and Daniel Patteson and Michael Stidd. JONES, Justen Graymond 11, of Apollo Beach passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 27, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 2, 1999 in Orlando, to Grayrich L. (Teresa) Jones and Renee G. (George) Beckford. He is survived by his devoted parents, loving brother, Brandon Jones; step-brothers, Tramaine Beckford, George Oglesby and Stephen Kreilkamp; maternal grandparents, Charles and Estella Jones; paternal grandparents, Verna and Augustus Green; a special cousin Kayla White and many other family and friends. PORTOULAS, Evangeline 89, of Bayonet Point, passed away June 29th. Born in North Braddock, PA on Sept. 23, 1920, she came to the Bayonet Point area in 2000 from New Port Richey. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. She was a member of the St. George Philoptochos Society and also in the chior for many years and a very active church member. Evangeline was predeceased by her husband, who shared in a loving marriage of 62 years, George A. Portoulas. Survived by a sister, Kaye. Mr. Wall is survived by his wife, Debbie Wall; three loving children, Andrew, Ashley & Allison Wall; mother of his children, Karen Wall Walker; his parents, Barry Wall and Patricia Wall; sisters, Ann Crawford and Elizabeth Wall; brother, Patterson Wall; as well as several nieces and nephews. WILSON, Evelyn 83, of Riverview, passed away June 22, 2010. Evelyn was born on Aug. 3, 1926 in Boston, MA to George E. and Mary Gertrude Quigley, Sr. She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas H. Wilson; parents, George E. and Mary Gertrude Quigley. Evelyn is survived by her children, Sage Caruana, Bella Vargas and Cy Vargas; grandchildren, Melissa Lewis, Rachel Lopez, Abram Zies, Erica Mora, Charmaine and Colette Radcliffe; great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Brittany, Cheyeanne and Megan Pawlson, Mikaela Robertson and Ethan Zies; brother, George E. Quigley, Jr. (Boston, MA) and sister, Patricia Russell (Marlboro, MA.). Our beloved Mrs. Evelyn G. Wilson made her final voyage on June 22, 2010 at 1:45 pm to join her late husband, Douglas H. Wilson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to all who had the fortune to meet her. She never met anyone who wasn't a friend. As a Christian she devoted her life to God and others in need. She helped people to find the Lord, which is where she found her comfort and happiness. Playing the organ and piano at church and for her family brought her great joy. Her love of animals and caring form them led her to actively donate to SPCA, PETA and the Wildlife foundation.
