LUTZ 4TH PARADE IS SATURDAY

Typically, the Lutz Fourth of July parade and celebration takes place on, well, the Fourth of July.

But when Independence Day falls on a Sunday, like this year, organizers move it to Saturday.

"We don't want to disturb the churches" on the parade route, organizer Phyllis Hoedt said. Their members "couldn't get to church and they would be mad at us."

Otherwise, Saturday morning's celebration will be the same event as usual, starting with a 5K run, followed by a cake sale, barbecue and a parade with a patriotic theme - Lutz Supports Our Troops. The parade is Lutz's signature event of the year, drawing thousands to the historic area just west of U.S. 41.
