Westbound traffic on the Pinellas Bayway should be moving more smoothly, thanks to recent improvements east of the toll plaza.
Seeking to reduce congestion and confusion, the Florida Department of Transportation took steps last month to mark the SunPass-only lane more clearly.
Markings for the lane now begin 1,600 feet east of the toll plaza, with bold SunPass labels in the pavement every 250 feet. The DOT also installed a crush-resistant, all-weather durable curb along the final 200 feet of the lane.
"Our hope is that this will get SunPass users, and only SunPass users, into this left lane much sooner," said Kris Carson of the DOT.
