A family tiff over cell phones and video games escalated last weekend when a man grabbed a samurai sword and brandished it at his son, authorities said.
During a fight about a cell phone at 1:22 a.m. Saturday, Herbert Theodore Jones II slapped a PlayStation from the hands of his 21-year-old son and shattered the screen, Hernando County Sheriff's Office deputies said.
Then Jones, 46, ran to the master bedroom of 6265 Kimball Court and grabbed a samurai sword from under the bed, according to Sgt. Jim Powers.
"You have no idea what I can do to you right now," Jones reportedly said, brandishing the samurai sword at his son, Dennis Jones.
When his son put him in a headlock, a Sheriff's Office report said, Herbert Jones tried to bite his way to freedom.
"Nothing's surprising in our line of work anymore," Powers said.
Dennis Jones had bruises and abrasions where his father bit him and a scratch on his left shoulder, the report said.
Deputies did not know whether Herbert Jones was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Jones was charged with aggravated assault and domestic battery. He is being held at the Hernando County Jail without bail.
