GUN, CROWBAR PART OF DISPUTE OVER BREAKUP

NEW PORT RICHEY

His girlfriend kept trying to escape, authorities say, but Skylor Lee Smith went after her anyway - first with a shotgun, then with a crowbar.

Smith, 19, threatened to kill himself, then threatened his live-in girlfriend, with a shotgun after they argued about breaking up, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. Smith pushed his girlfriend and pinned her down, the report said, but she escaped and ran into her truck.

Smith got there before she could drive away, pulling her out of the truck by her hair, the report said. Authorities say he hit her left arm and left leg with a crowbar, then punched her in the face.

Deputies arrested Smith at his house at 11420 Bruin Drive in New Port Richey, but he threatened to commit suicide several times before he was taken to Land O'Lakes jail, the report said.

Smith has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, burglary battery and criminal mischief. He is being held in the jail without bail.
