The newest leaders of the Largo Police Department were sworn in Tuesday to resounding applause from friends and family members, taking positions that were left open after Chief John Carroll was promoted last month from deputy chief.
Capt. Jeffrey Undestad was promoted to deputy chief, the department's second-in-command.
Carroll said Undestad has an easygoing leadership style and will quickly excel in his new position.
"He can be relied upon to solve problems and complex situations," Carroll said.
Lt. Brian Browne was promoted to captain, Sgt. Timothy Block was promoted to lieutenant and Officers Randall Chaney, Joseph Coyle and Christopher Burke were promoted to sergeant.
Altogether, they have more than half a century of law enforcement experience, and most have spent the majority of their law enforcement careers working in the city.
"These folks are all veteran officers," Carroll said.
