BALES, David "Wayne" 49, of Tampa, passed away June 20, 2010. Wayne was born in Zanesville, OH. He moved to Tampa in 1973. He enjoyed Nascar Racing, fishing, bike riding and music. CARLISLE, William Jr. Passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Born July 3, 1926, in Hickory, PA, he and his family moved to St. Petersburg in 1956, where he began his career in law enforcement as a homicide detective with the St. Petersburg Police Department for 20 years. Upon his retirement, he then served as a criminal justice instructor at the Police Academy. He was an avid sports enthusiast. If he wasn't on the golf course you could find him at a Ray's game. He served as a little league coach for over 25 years & officiated high school football and basketball as well as college basketball for over 40 years. He was selected to the Senior Hall of Fame and presented the Key to the City of St. Petersburg. He was the Past President of the St. Petersburg Exchange Club, Men's Golf Association of the Vinoy Club, Football & Basketball Officials' Association, Winston Park Neighborhood Association, NEHI Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Carlisle loved the Lord and served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He loved his family. The love of his life, wife Mary Beth, his daughter Kim & her husband Bill Clayton, his two grandchildren, Matt Clayton & wife Erin, and granddaughter Ashley Clayton. All who fondly referred to him as "Pa." He is survived by an older brother, and three nephews. GRASSO, Perle Langdon MacNicol born Oct. 16, 1921, in Florence, MA, died in Ormond Beach on May 29, 2010, at the age of 88. She worked as a buyer at Todd's Department Store in Northampton, MA before moving to St. Petersburg, where she was a dress buyer for William Henry Department Store. In 1978, she acquired a real estate license. She was married to Archibald MacNicol from 1964, until his death in 1984, and to Vito Grasso from 1996, until his death in 2000. Perle was an active member of the Kirk of Dunedin. She volunteered in schools and became a mentor in an Adopt a Grandchild program. She will be remembered for her meticulous appearance and dress, her sense of humor in difficult times, her loving care of others and her excellence in whatever she strove to accomplish. Preceded in death by her six siblings, she leaves behind her niece Joan Mastronarde of Albany, CA; her nephew Bennett Langdon of Cummington, MA; the extensive family of Archibald MacNicol, the family of Vito Grasso, and her beloved mentored granddaughter Christine Newsome of Branson. HEARD, Steve 44, of Tampa, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010. Born in Chattanooga, TN, he moved to Tampa in 1968, where he later met and married Julie. As an entertainer, Steve brought music into the lives of everyone he knew. He was passionate about Alabama Football; his mom's cooking, and above all, being a father to his sons Gunner (16) and Wylder (15). He stayed involved in their lives by coaching Cardinal Football, Forest Hills Baseball and volunteering with the Jesuit Dad's Club. IRVIN, Carol McKay passed away July 2, 2010. She was born on Oct. 9, 1946, in Newport News, VA, and was a lifelong resident of the Tampa Bay area. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School and H.B. Plant High School. She graduated from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and received a Masters Degree in Elementary Special Education from Butler University. Carol was a teacher for more than 40 years and made a lasting difference in the lives of many young people, particularly children with special needs. She also contributed to the community through her work with the Junior League of Tampa and recently through the Florida Guardian ad Litem program. Carol was preceded in death by her son Charles Robert Irvin and her parents Joyce and K.I. McKay. JORDAN, Mary Abby Dearborn 87, passed away July 4, 2010, at her St. Petersburg home after a long battle with polio. She moved to Florida in 1956 from Cape Elizabeth, ME, and was a dedicated mother, homemaker and loving wife. Known as "Mum-Mum" to her family, she had a courageous attitude toward life. LEIGHT, Robert L. 79, Palm Harbor, died on Saturday July 3rd. He was born Dec. 16th, 1930, in Detroit, MI. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 27 years, retiring as a Command Master Sergeant. He served his country during WWII, the Korean War (3 Campaigns) and Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam, Robert was a member of the Geneva Convention. He earned several Good Conduct Medals and Bronze Star Medals. He also was a Purple Heart recipient. After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1973 he worked for the U.S. Postal Service where he retired after 23 years in 1997. Robert is survived by his wife, Rosetta (56 years); sons, John, Robert, Timothy (Elizabeth), Charles (Darla), David (Kimberly), Steven (Tracey); daughter, Alicia Bright (Gary); 8 grandchildren, Kenneth, Madison, Taylor, Clarissa, Kirby, Ava, Christopher and Grant. McMICHAEL, Margaret H. "Peggy" of Tampa passed away peacefully on July 4th. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank P. McMichael Sr., her sons, Walton McMichael (Darby) and Dorsey McMichael, and was predeceased by her eldest son Frank McMichael Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley Hawk (Chad), Paul McMichael (Ehren), Sarah McMichael (Travis); great-grandson Brayden McMichael; and former daughter-in-law Martha Altman (Chuck). Peggy was born on July 6, 1926, moved to Tampa with her family as a teenager and attended Plant High School and Duke University. She was involved in many civic and social activities, holding leadership and board positions at Tampa Women's Hospital, Metropolitan Ministries, MacDonald Training Center, Tampa Federation of Garden Clubs, Founders Garden Circle, and the Tampa Junior League, among others. She was renowned for her gardening abilities, beautifying their homes to the enjoyment of neighbors on San Miguel Street, Prospect Road and Sterling Avenue. Hyde Park United Methodist Church was the guiding force in Peggy's life for over 60 years and she valued greatly her many friends at church as well as the numerous support and leadership positions she held there. However, her greatest joy at church came from the children in the kindergarten Sunday School classes she taught for so many years. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 9th at 2pm at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 501 W. Platt St., Tampa, with a reception immediately following in the church activities center. PANNIER, Fredrick Paul was born Aug. 24, 1951 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He spent his formative years in his much loved Buenos Aires, Argentina. During these years, the family periodically travelled to the States to visit grandparents, aunts and uncles on propeller planes, on the first jets, and on several ocean liners, before permanently relocating to the States with his family when he was 17 years old. He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era in Fort Walton Beach, and in Thailand. Later, Fred studied photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, CA, and moved to New York City upon graduation. He was self-employed and was fullfilled by his 20 year career in audio visual multimedia presentations for fortune 500 companies. His profession took him to resorts all over the world. Brazil, Argentina, Thialand, Hawaii, Alaska, Japan, Canada, England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and Russia were among the places Fred visited. He was a member of IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) and worked on a Broadway production. Fred is survived by his father, Frank Joseph; his mother, Madlyn "Kiki" nee Menendez; his siblings, Ginny, Alice, Brian, and Jon; and by his beloved son, William Forest Pannier who gave him his greatest sense of pride and joy. He was preceeded in death by his eldest brother, Frank Mario. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Fred will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell later this summer. RONNE, Marjorie Sara "Dede", 89, of Clearwater, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2010, at Bon Secours Maria Manor. She was born March 5, 1921 in Waukegan, IL. In 1941 she married the love of her life, Sven Ronne, and they moved to Clearwater in 1952. He predeceased her in 1995. Marjorie was a member of the Woman's Republican Party and a poll worker for many years. She was passionate about her yard and flowers, especially the azaleas. No visit to her home was complete without a tour of the yard. RUPP, Fern Westcott 83, of Gulfport, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 2, 2010. She was born March 28, 1927 in Toledo, OH to Frank J. (Fern) Westcott and graduated from DeVilbiss High School and Denison University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Fern relocated to Florida in 1976 and resided at Isla Del Sol in St. Petersburg, where she was an avid golfer and President of the Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed sharing her great style with customers while working many years at Casual Corner and Petite Sophisticates. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Frances W. DiTirro and her older sister, Roberta W. Maxwell. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Karen Rupp of Gulfport; and son, Frank "Westy" Rupp (Caroline) of Palm Springs, CA; and nieces and nephews. He grew up in Elmira, NY and graduated from State University of New York at Albany. He was an elder of First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Board and Treasurer of the Foundation for International Missions. TAYLOR, Judge Peter J.T. 83, of Tampa, went to be with the Lord July 3, 2010. He was born in Crookham, Northumberland, England and moved to Tampa when he was a few months old. He attended local schools, graduating from H.B. Plant High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-47 as a 2nd Lt. in Korea. He graduated from the University of Florida with a BSBA degree, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, and from Stetson University College of Law, where he was designated "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities." He practiced law in Tampa until being appointed a Circuit Judge of the 13th Judicial Court in 1983. During his tenure, he was appointed Administrative Judge of the Probate Law Division and the Family Law Division. While Administrative Judge in the Family Law Division, he helped implement and coordinate the court procedures regarding domestic violence safeguards. Judge Taylor was a member of the Florida Bar and all State and Federal Courts, the Hillsborough County and American Bar Associations, and the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Family Law Inns of Court of Tampa Bay and the American College of Probate Counsel. He was a member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, the Scottish Rite, Holyrood Masonic Lodge, Egypt Temple Shrine and the St. Andrews Society of Florida. He was a former member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Tampa Yacht and Country Club, Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, the Tampa Club and the Merrymakers Club. Judge Taylor is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane; his daughters Carole T. Kirkwood and her husband, Dan, and Susan T. Schnitzlein and her husband, Paul; six grandchildren, Jim, Pete and Wendy Kirkwood and Ellen, Matt and Nathan Schnitzlein; his sister, Sarah Jane Taylor, all of Tampa, and his brother-in-law, Dr. James R. Duke of Baltimore, MD. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas A.T. Taylor. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11am at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. THOMPSON, Brinton Pearce 77, of Falls Church, VA, passed away on June 30, 2010, at Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, VA. He was born in St. Petersburg. He attended the University of Florida and the University of Virginia. After serving in the Army, he taught economics at Virginia Military Institute. Following that Mr. Thompson was in College Administration at Western New England University, Brown University and George Mason University. He then joined Tax Associates in Falls Church. His interests included collecting antique clocks. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edith Patricia Thompson of Falls Church. VELAZQUEZ, Juan Juan was born on July 19th, 1948 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. His parents were Eugenio Velazquez and Juana Nieves Pagan. Juan boarded his first plane in 1955 at the age of six and moved to 110 St. and Madison Ave in Manhattan, New York. He graduated in 1966 from Samuel Gompers Vocational high school with a certification in woodworking. As his new life began in New York, Juan shared his love with his four children Nadine, Rosalyn, Brian and James. His children always loved him and he was always there to help in any situation. This love of family grew even more once grandchildren came into the picture. His legacy lives on through Brandon, Ariana, Jordan, Ethan, Maya, Anthony and with God's blessing, the soon to arrive Baby Nimja. Juan's face lit up like a Christmas tree when ever family and friends came over. Juan is survived by his sisters, Carmen and Francis in addition to his five nieces; Gloria, Evelyn, Madeline, Nilsa and Mirta and five nephews; Rafael, Jose, Ramon, Edwin and Dennis. He was a loving uncle to all the children that grew into these families. He enjoyed a life long career as a Merchant Marine, Bosun for 28 years. With this job came the benefit of travelling the world many times over. A few of those destinations included Russia, Egypt, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Africa and Spain. Juan attended the Atlantic Fleet Helicopter Operations School and had the distinction of receiving numerous certifications from U.S. Navy Military Sea Lift Command as well as the Department of Defense. His certifications included cold water survival, ship board helicopter fire fighter, small arms, anti-terrorism, basic marine fire fighter and also had the distinguished honor of serving on the U.S. Naval ship Lcpl. Roy M. Wheat. In 1986 he relocated to Tampa, and began a dual career as a business entrepreneur. Juan was the man who could turn a dollar out of 15 cents. Juan was known to many as a funny, outgoing and happy individual loved by many more than we can possibly mention. While Juan enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing and salsa dancing, nothing gave him more pleasure than kicking back in his favorite chair and watching the Sci-Fi channel with his grand kids, toss in some seafood and you had one happy man! He enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren as well as his dogs, Spyder, Lacy, Chiquita and Zooey they all loved him. Juan passed away on June 28th, 2010 in Melech Hospice House surrounded by his family. He is survived by his 4 children, their spouses and his many grandchildren. In keeping with his final wishes to be cremated, his ashes will be kept at Sunset Memory Gardens here in Florida. Throughout his life Juan was a happy, giving and loving man. His sense of humor and constant smile were proof of this. Juan leaves behind a loving and devoted wife, Gloria, a legacy of cherished memories, family and lasting friendships.
