The bay area was well-represented on the recently released MaxPreps Softball All-American Team. Palm Harbor University's Madison O'Brien, East Bay's Kayla Cox, Erika Arcuri from Plant and Ashli Goff from Sickles were selected for the national award.
Florida had six players chosen, with Dunellon's Kasey Fagan earning player of the year honors.
Players were chosen by the MaxPreps writing staff. Schools that play softball during the fall season were not considered for the All-American team.

Largo hosting 7-on-7 tournament Friday
Largo will host one of the biggest 7-on-7 football tournaments in Pinellas County at 7 p.m. Friday at Packer Stadium.
The tournament was put together through an NFL grant by former Largo standout Marcus Paschal, who is currently playing for the Baltimore Ravens. There are eight county teams participating: Boca Ciega, Clearwater, Dunedin, East Lake, Lakewood, Largo, Palm Harbor University and Seminole.
Each team will play at least two games, Packers coach Rick Rodriguez said. Admission is $5 and the concession stand will be open.
Paschal also will hold a camp for players 13 and under on Saturday.
CALVARY G APPELT SIGNS WITH CLEARWATER COLLEGE: Calvary Christian's Jim Appelt, who helped lead the Warriors to the Class 2A region semifinals in basketball, signed with Clearwater Christian College.
Appelt, a guard, averaged 7.8 points and 4.7 assists this past season. In the 2A region quarterfinals against Kissimmee New Dimensions, Appelt played a key role in the 88-83 victory, tying for the team lead in scoring with 19 points, including four 3-pointers.
TARPON'S RUGGIERO HEADED TO PHCC: Tarpon Springs' Chris Ruggiero decided to join teammate Matt Freburg at Pasco-Hernando Community College, Spongers coach Dickie Hart said.
Ruggiero, who was voted Tarpon's MVP, played catcher, rightfield and centerfield this past season. He hit .294 and led the team in RBIs (19), doubles (eight) and home runs (two).
PHCC has signed nine players from the county in the past three seasons.
OSCEOLA PITCHER SIGNS WITH LAGRANGE: Osceola pitcher Tyler Brown, one of the key seniors in the Warriors' district title run, signed with LaGrange (Ga.) College, a Division III school.
Brown was 4-2 with a 2.3 ERA this past season. He also hit above .300 and had two home runs and 22 RBIs.
Brown will be joined at LaGrange by two other county stars, Northeast's Noel Thomas and Phil Woods. All three played in the Pinellas-Hillsborough all-star game last month.
In May, LaGrange received its first bid to the NCAA Division III baseball championships.
SPC'S ANDRADE TO WALK ON AT SETON HALL: St. Petersburg Catholic's Kolbe Andrade has accepted a walk-on spot to play baseball at Seton Hall, Barons coach John Vigue said.
Andrade, SPC's starting second baseman, was an all-county honorable mention selection the past two seasons. He hit .300 and led the team in stolen bases with 18 and was second in runs scored with 27.
