TORONTO - Minnesota star 1B Justin Morneau sat out Thursday and is day to day with what the team called a "mild concussion."

Morneau was kneed in the head Wednesday when he slid into Toronto SS John McDonald while trying to break up a double play.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Morneau could return tonight.

"He doesn't feel very good," he said. "It knocked him a little loopy."

VOTTO, SWISHER IN ALL-STAR GAME: Reds 1B Joey Votto and Yankees RF Nick Swisher were chosen in online balloting for the All-Star Game's final roster spots. Votto beat: Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman, Rockies LF Carlos Gonzalez and Braves closer Billy Wagner. (Padres closer Heath Bell was a candidate before becoming an injury replacement.) Swisher beat: Red Sox 1B Kevin Youkilis, White Sox 1B Paul Konerko, Rangers 3B Michael Young and Twins LF Delmon Young.

ALL-STAR PROTEST: Protestors gathered outside MLB headquarters in Manhattan in hopes of moving the 2011 All-Star Game from Arizona. It would be punishment for the state's new strict immigration law. Commissioner Bud Selig has repeatedly said the game won't move.

HOME RUN DERBY: Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez was added. He joins Brewers RF Corey Hart, Cardinals LF Matt Holliday, Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera, Red Sox DH David Ortiz and Blue Jays CF Vernon Wells. Two more players will be added.

BREWERS: LF Ryan Braun was given a day off in hopes of ending his slump. The All-Star is hitless in his past 16 at-bats.

GIANTS: LHP Dan Runzler dislocated his left knee while swinging at a pitch. The reliever's status will be determined after an MRI exam scheduled for today.

PADRES: CF Tony Gwynn Jr. sat a day after he jammed his left heel while climbing the wall to make a catch. He is day to day.

PHILLIES: RHP Ryan Madson returned. He broke his right big toe kicking a chair after blowing a save April 28.

RED SOX: RHP Josh Beckett will make a rehab start at Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday. He has been out since May 19 with a lower back strain.

YANKEES: DH Nick Johnson felt pain in his surgically repaired right wrist while taking swings. He was sent to New York for evaluation. It's the same wrist that cost him half of 2008 and all of 2000.
