OBITUARIES

ADAMS, Frank Roland Jr. 90, of St. Petersburg, passed away July 3, 2010 and is at home with his Lord & Savior. Frank was born in Pensacola, to Frank R. Adams Sr. and Helen F. Adams. He was one of four brothers, attended schools in St. Petersburg, graduating from St. Petersburg High School, and attended St. Petersburg Junior College before entering the U.S. Army Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet in 1942. He separated from active service in 1946 with the rank of First Lt., last serving as a field staff pilot. Following the service, he worked as a regional sales representataive and as a small business owner before returning to St. Petersburg to establish a real estate brokerage agency, as well as, a group benefits insurance consulting agency. Upon retirement, Frank enjoyed his family, making friends with everyone he met, extended cross country RV adventures, golf and tennis. He was a long term member of the First Presbyterian Church, having served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee and with many church committees. Frank is survived by his wife Tricia Adams; daughters, Ruth Anne Niles (Jerry) & Fran Stumpff (Ed); son Frank Adams III (Alice); eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren & Ella expected in October. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Bill, Charles and Dick; and his first wife Mary Alice Adams. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2:30pm, at the First Presbyterian Church. ALLISON, Robert L. Sr. 64, of Tampa, passed away July 5, 2010. He is survived by his wife Gale; sons, Robert L. Allison Jr. and Jeffrey Allison both of Tampa; brother, Karl M. BALES, David "Wayne" 49, of Tampa, passed away June 20, 2010. Wayne was born in Zanesville, OH. He moved to Tampa in 1973. He enjoyed Nascar Racing, fishing, bike riding and music. He was preceded in death by his father, David J. Bales; paternal grandparents, David R. and Daisy P. Bales; maternal grandparents, Marcellous A. and Eula B. Rogers. CARR, Rosemary (nee Hession) 63, of Largo, passed away on Monday, July 5th, from complications arising from her diabetes. Born in Brookline, MA, in 1947, to John and Mary Hession, she grew up in Cochituate, MA. She married Victor Carr in 1967, and attended Framingham State College, where she got her BS and MS in biochemistry and nutrition. She began her professional career at Leary Laboratories in Boston, and spent several years doing research in diabetes at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston. For a short period she pursued a PhD at Clark University, in Worcester, MA, but gave it up to found Computer Help with her husband, while raising their daughter, Susan. In 1993, Rosemary, Victor and Susan moved to Columbia, MD, where she worked for a consulting firm in support of the Dept. of Defense, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs and for Verizon as a Project Manager in various areas of IT. In 2003, she and Victor moved to Largo, where she worked as a Project Manager in support of Imaging in the VA. She retired from a professional life in 2008. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Victor; their daughter Susan; her sister Karen Lloyd; her niece Colleen Lloyd, and her nephew, Robert Lloyd, Jr., along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. ENGELENBERG, Lema (Hawkins) passed away peacefully June 4th. She was preceded by her beloved husband Henry "Junior" Engelenberg and her siblings Evelyn, Sarah and Wesley. She graduated from St. Pete High School while working at Webb city. She attended Nurses training at Pensacola during WWII. After the war she married Junior and they started building houses together. They didn't have children but life was full of work, fun, dogs and caring for friends and family. She is survived by her nephew Albert, great-nephew Gabriel and great-niece Aleah. FOWLER, Gerald Age 67, passed away unexpectedly June 27 at his home in Palm Harbor. Gerald grew up in Mt. Vernon, IL. He obtained an AA degree from Mt Vernon Community College, a BA degree from University of Dubuque, and later an MBA degree.He worked in the insurance field. His family and friends loved him for his gentleness, kindness, and especially for his humor and wit which made family gatherings wonderfully happy times. GIRARDI, Florence Ruskin age 99,passed away, peacefully, on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Baytree Lakeside in St. Petersburg. She was born in Chicago, IL, on July 1, 1911, to the late Sadie Kessler Ruskin and Jacob Ruskin. Mrs. Girardi was a loving and caring individual who touched many lives during her long life. She spent her formative years in Toronto, Canada, and moved to Flushing, Long Island, NY, after marrying.She retired from the retail world in 1978, and moved to St. Petersburg, with her husband, John Girardi. HAAG, Margaret Ann "Peg" passed away on July 6, 2010. She is survived by her husband Richard; their children Elizabeth O'Day, Katharine Haag, Richard Jr., and Patricia Preshur; 12 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild; in addition to a sister Patricia Higgins and brother William Higgins. While she was waiting for her husband to complete an Air Force career, she completed a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree. She then worked with elementary students as a guidance counselor in Omaha, NE, and spent 20 years in The Pinellas County school system. She enjoyed golf, sewing, tutoring and bridge to fill her day. McCLAIN, Helen L. 93, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010, in Orange Park. Helen was a resident of St. Petersburg, since 1920, before moving to Orange Park. Helen and her husband of 65 years, Carl L. McClain were charter members of Mirror Lake Christian Church and were instrumental in the founding of Palm Lake Christian Church. She was predeceased by Carl in 2000. Survivors include her sons, Robert L. McClain (Barbara) and Larry F. McLAURIN, Elsie Armwood passed away at home in Seffner, Wednesday morning, July 7, 2010. She is a former teacher who taught in both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties for 41 years. She is survived by one daughter, Karen P. Mansfield and son-in-law Stanley L. Mansfield. Additional survivors include a sister, Frances E. OLSEN, June Marie 87, passed away Wednesday, July 7th, 2010. The only child of Thomas & Marie Mathisen was born June 24th, 1923. Survived by devoted & loving husband Robert of 63 years; children William (Joan) Olsen and Karen (Charles) Hennessey; and grandchildren Ryan, Gregory, & Kevin Olsen & Matthew & Laurie Hennessey. Preceded in death by her youngest son James Alan in 1995. Bob & June met when she was 11 & he was 12. They joined in marriage after WWII by the renowned Dr. Joshua Oden at Irving Park Lutheran Church in Chicago. June was a very beautiful woman both inside & outside and was a shining example of one of the finest persons a society can produce. In April, 2010, 63 years of marriage & in June her 87th birthday was celebrated. We, her family, were very lucky to have her as wife, mother, and grandparent & she will be greatly missed. PANNIER, Fredrick Paul was born Aug. 24, 1951 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He spent his formative years in his much loved Buenos Aires, Argentina. During these years, the family periodically travelled to the States to visit grandparents, aunts and uncles on propeller planes, on the first jets, and on several ocean liners, before permanently relocating to the States with his family when he was 17 years old. He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era in Fort Walton Beach, and in Thailand. Later, Fred studied photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, CA, and moved to New York City upon graduation. He was self-employed and was fullfilled by his 20 year career in audio visual multimedia presentations for fortune 500 companies. His profession took him to resorts all over the world. Brazil, Argentina, Thialand, Hawaii, Alaska, Japan, Canada, England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and Russia were among the places Fred visited. He was a member of IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) and worked on a Broadway production. SALEM, Shulamith 85, died June 11, 2010, in Pinellas Park, after an extended illness. Shulamith was born in Israel on Oct. 6, 1924, the daughter of Jacob and Pnina Rechavia. In 1947, she moved to West Lafayette, IN and married Samuel Salem. They moved to Akron, OH in 1951. Shulamith was a musician, artist, and writer. In Israel she studied classical piano, later studied art and music at Kent State, including classical Spanish guitar, and then studied at Penland School of Crafts. Described as abstract expressionism, her artworks were shown in the U.S. and Israel, including paintings, ceiling-height batiks, life-size sculptures, cloisonné enamel, ceramics and jewelry. Her poetry and art books were published in Israel, and over 100 complete books were not yet published. In 1996, Shula was featured in the documentary: "Gekan: A Life of 3 Artists." Shula's pioneering parents immigrated from the Soviet Union to Palestine in 1917. In 1939, her father was knighted in Jerusalem by Sir Harold McMichael on behalf of King George VI of England for service to the British Empire and Palestine. On her mother's side, she was a descendent to Shalom Yakov Abramowitz, known as "Mendele the Bookseller," the "grandfather of Yiddish literature." She is survived by brothers, Shmuel Rechavia of Tel-Aviv, Israel, and Reuven Rechavia of Hertzelia, Israel, and sons, Michael I. Salem of Rutland, VT, Ronald E. Salem of Santa Ana, CA (partner Jason Nguyen), and Jonathan D. Salem of Tampa, (wife Angela), and granddaughters, Abigail Rachelle Salem and Gavriella Rebecca Salem of Tampa. STOKES, Dorothy B. 94, went home to be with the Lord July 6, 2010. She was born in Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Taylor Stokes; her father, George Wharton Beswick; her mother, Rose Tripper Beswick; and her brother, George William Beswick. She received her B.A. degree from Mississippi College and M.A. degree from Peabody College. Dorothy touched the lives of many people during her 17 years of teaching English at Hillsborough High School in Tampa. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Temple Terrace United Methodist Church, Temple Terrace Women's Club, and Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), Chapter DV. TAYLOR, Judge Peter J.T. 83, of Tampa, went to be with the Lord July 3, 2010. He was born in Crookham, Northumberland, England and moved to Tampa when he was a few months old. He attended local schools, graduating from H.B. Plant High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-47 as a 2nd Lt. in Korea. He graduated from the University of Florida with a BSBA degree, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, and from Stetson University College of Law, where he was designated "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities." He practiced law in Tampa until being appointed a Circuit Judge of the 13th Judicial Court in 1983. During his tenure, he was appointed Administrative Judge of the Probate Law Division and the Family Law Division. While Administrative Judge in the Family Law Division, he helped implement and coordinate the court procedures regarding domestic violence safeguards. Judge Taylor was a member of the Florida Bar and all State and Federal Courts, the Hillsborough County and American Bar Associations, and the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Family Law Inns of Court of Tampa Bay and the American College of Probate Counsel. He was a member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, the Scottish Rite, Holyrood Masonic Lodge, Egypt Temple Shrine and the St. Andrews Society of Florida. He was a former member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Tampa Yacht and Country Club, Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, the Tampa Club and the Merrymakers Club. Judge Taylor is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane; his daughters Carole T. Kirkwood and her husband, Dan, and Susan T. Schnitzlein and her husband, Paul; six grandchildren, Jim, Pete and Wendy Kirkwood and Ellen, Matt and Nathan Schnitzlein; his sister, Sarah Jane Taylor, all of Tampa, and his brother-in-law, Dr. James R. Duke of Baltimore, MD. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas A.T. Taylor. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11am at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. TEW, Myrtice H. 82, of Lithia, began her dance with Jesus on July 5, 2010, in Lewisburg, PA. Myrtice was a native Floridian born and raised in Lithia, and a member of Keysville Assembly of God. She worked for 30 years as a personnel manager for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, but she would tell you her true profession was being a Christian mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Tew. She is survived by her four children, Michael, Steven, Sandra and Lou Ann; siblings James Hunter, Nellie Henderson, and Nadine Faulkner; and 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
