SUSPECT IN BANK THEFT ARRESTED AT HIS HOME

HUDSON

Pasco County sheriff's detectives knew where to look for the man accused of robbing a SunTrust Bank this week: They arrested Derrick J. Loreto at his home on Friday.

Loreto, 24, is accused of robbing the Port Richey branch at 7612 State Road 52 on Thursday. After making his demands, a man walked out of the bank with an undisclosed sum of cash about 10:30 a.m., according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies believe that surveillance cameras caught the same man casing the Regions Bank at SR 52 and Zimmerman Road earlier that morning. For some reason, the man decided to rob the nearby SunTrust instead.

Detectives released to the media photos of the suspect taken by surveillance cameras inside the bank. A tip helped them identify Loreto. They went to his home at 13139 Parkwood St. in Hudson and arrested him about 5 p.m. Friday.

Loreto was taken to the Pasco County jail, but the charges he is facing were not made available late Friday.
