In a draft report obtained yesterday by The Gradebook, communications consultant Hill & Knowlton - which Pinellas Superintendent Julie Janssen hired in February to do a communications "audit" - suggests a suite of changes, including this potentially big one:
Our interviews, observations and review of best practices all point to the need to make changes to the District's current communications structure.
The current approach has tried to carve out an internal role for the Office of Strategic Communications and an external focus for the Communications Office, with both functions reporting to the Superintendent. We recommend you evolve toward a structure in which there is a single leadership position with ultimate responsibility for all communications, both internal and external. For purposes of this discussion, we will refer to this position as the "Chief Communications Officer" (CCO).
