Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi joined House Speaker Dean Cannon on the dais just before 8 p.m. on Friday to watch as the House voted unanimously in favor of HB 7095, a bill intended to fight the state's prescription drug abuse epidemic.

"It's a victory for Florida," a jubilant Bondi said after the vote. "What we just saw was an amazing bipartisan effort, which to me was so overwhelming. It was unanimous in the House and Senate and that's what government should be about. Working together to make our state a better place."

She plucked on a purple rubber bracelet given to her by the mother of Brandi Meschad, a Sarasota 18-year-old who lost her life in March to prescription drugs. Bondi said she promised the girls mother she would wear the bracelet until the governor signed the bill into law.

"Hopefully next week I can cut this off," she said.
