Given our spotty history with Weezy, we're a little hesitant to report this news ... but, eh, what the heck.
According to MTV, Pollstar and others, Lil Wayne is coming to Tampa on the next leg of his I Am Still Music Tour. He'll perform at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre on Aug. 3, and as was the case with the first leg, he'll bring along a slew of big-name hip-hop, R&B and pop stars: Rick Ross, Keri Hilson, Far East Movement and Lloyd.
The last time Lil Wayne hit the Amphitheatre, the show was good enough for us to name it one of the best Tampa Bay concerts of 2009. More recently, we saw Weezy at Orlando's Amway Center in April, and we gotta say, it was a pretty killer gig:
Over the course of the evening, Weezy ripped through parts of at least 30 songs from his neverending catalog -- it was impossible to keep count. He clearly knew what it take to lead an arena show, bringing a multi-tiered set to run through, plus a backing band (who, to be honest, didn't contribute a whole lot throughout the night). Weezy's playfulness came out on songs like Sky's The Limit and Got Money, as he shimmied across the stage and never let the aesthetics and music overwhelm his signature rasp.
There's no ticket info just yet on the Tampa show. According to MTV.com, tickets will go onsale to the public the weekend of May 20. We'll keep you posted.
