All week on Soundcheck we'll be spotlighting some of the local artists performing at this year's Tropical Heatwave on Saturday. Today: Swamp Logic.
Just like every year, there'll be a strong N'awlins presence at Tropical Heatwave, including Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys and the Mobile Itenerant Funk Unit, a second line brass band made of some of Tampa Bay's top jazz musicians.
And then there's Swamp Logic. The bluesy, throwbacky group - Blake Yeager, Joe Montanaro, Joe Cosas, Matt Salvador and Jeremy Powell - have an unabashed love for New Orleans and the piano-blues music that it's known for. (Their name is a tribute to the fact that both Florida and Louisiana are known for swampy wetlands.) Their jazz-influenced brand of foot-stompin', rip-roarin' blues-rock will appeal to anyone who's into Dr. John and Professor Longhair.
This weekend, you'll actually have two chances to see them. At Tropical Heatwave, they're performing at the New World Brewery stage starting at 6 p.m. Then on Sunday, they'll throw a post-Heatwave party at 9 p.m. at the Hub in downtown Tampa.
