Lady Gaga helps Robin Hood Foundation raise $47 million for poor, veterans

The totals are in from Monday night's Robin Hood Foundation fundraiser gala in New York, and there's good news and bad news. The good news: Lady Gaga's appearance onstage helped haul in $47.4 million. The bad news: It's a bit shy of last year's record of $87.8 million. But don't blame Gaga for that.

The Wall Street event, held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, sold out in mid-April after her appearance was announced, but the 2011 event lacked the matching gift from billionaire George Soros and foundation board members last year brought in, Bloomberg reports. The shindig, which also featured a performance by Kid Rock, featured a crowd full of financiers, real-estate moguls and the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Martha Stewart and Ron Howard.

The Robin Hood Foundation finds money for 200 New York poverty-fighting organizations, Bloomberg reports. Sunday night's total brought in $11.9 million from tables for Afghanistan and Iraq war vets, and featured an auction that brought in $400,000 for the winner to record a song with the Black Eyed Peas'
