CENTRAL PLAYERS CHOOSE COLLEGES

Five Central football players have made their college decisions, according to coach Mike Einspahr.

QB Josh Burkhart and WR Nick Kroner will play for Methodist University, a Division III school in Fayetteville, N.C. Burkhart completed 60-of-144 passes for 748 yards with four touchdowns last season. He also rushed 24 times for 80 yards and three more scores.

Kroner caught five passes in 2010 for 63 yards. RB Charlie Stanley and lineman Cleo Loder will take their talents to Dodge City (Kan.) Community College. Stanley carried 60 times for 212 yards and one touchdown and also had 17 tackles. Loder starred on the offensive and defensive lines for Central.

FB/LB Mike Bailey is headed to Division III Concordia University Chicago. He got 17 carries for the Bears in 2010 and rushed for 91 yards. He also proved his versatility by catching 14 passes for 124 yards and was second on the team with 81 tackles (44 solo).

LOL catcher signs with military institute

Land O'Lakes catcher David Perez will play baseball for Marion (Ala.) Military Institute next season after signing recently with the Tigers. Perez was also considering Prairie State College and Concordia University among others, according to his father, but decided on Marion because of Tigers coach Jake Wells' background as a college and minor-league catcher.

Perez started at catcher for the Gators this season and saw time as a designated hitter, first baseman and pitcher. He batted .369 with 22 RBIs, five doubles and three home runs. He scored a team-high 32 runs. Perez compiled a 2.33 ERA in 21 innings and finished 3-3, striking out 20.

Seahawks WR to Florida Tech

Sunlake wide receiver Zac Henderson will sign with Florida Tech on Friday, according to coach Bill Browning.

Henderson caught 14 passes for Sunlake, which finished its best season in 2010 after going 8-2 and narrowly missing the playoffs. He amassed 207 yards receiving and averaged 15 yards per catch. He had two touchdowns, including an 80-yarder.

As a linebacker, Henderson recorded five tackles and two pass deflections.

Gators' Taylor named in Rivals100

Berkeley Prep three-way star Nelson Agholor and Lakewood DE Dante Fowler are Nos. 9 and 11, respectively, on the first Rivals100 for the Class of 2012.

Other locals: Jefferson DE/TE Tyriq McCord (60) and Land O'Lakes TE Kent Taylor (68). A Rivals spokesman said the top 250 should be released later in the week.
