OFFICER'S WIDOW, CHIEF JOIN POLICE UNITY TOUR BIKE RIDE

TAMPA

More than a dozen law enforcement officers from Hillsborough County, including Tampa police Chief Jane Castor, began the annual Police Unity Tour bike ride in Portsmouth, Va., Tuesday.

Cindy Roberts, the widow of Tampa police Cpl. Mike Roberts who was killed in the line of duty in 2009, joined the officers on the 240-mile bike ride from Virginia to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The ride, which began in 1997, raises awareness about officers who died while on duty and raises funds for the national police memorial and law enforcement museum. Riders are expected to arrive in Washington on Thursday.
