U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson today reviewed classified photographs of Osama bin Laden taken after his death.
"There is no doubt in my mind - nor should there be in anyone else's - that we got the terrorist who orchestrated the insane and murderous acts that took place on Sept. 11, 2001," Nelson said after visiting CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., this afternoon.
The government made the photos available to certain lawmakers (Nelson is a member of the Intelligence Committee). Nelson agrees with President Obama's decision not to make the photos public but has called for their eventual release.
"Satisfying skeptics and conspiracy theorists isn't worth inflaming radicals or putting our troops in even more danger," the Democrat said in a statement. "Still, I personally believe the free flow of information is tantamount to our democracy. Thus, these pictures should eventually be made part of the public record."
Republican Sen. Marco Rubio has also been invited to see the photographs. His office said he is in no rush to do so, and has no reason to doubt bin Laden was killed.
