This is Canterbury's fourth straight state tournament appearance, and the Crusaders have eight players who have been on all four trips. They're facing Boca Raton Grandview Prep in today's Class A state final.
Krissy Longstreet is getting the start on the mound for the Crusaders. We'll have updates after every half inning.
Eighth inning: GP gets runners on first and second with two outs, the Winesett strikes out the final batter to end the threat. Adams and Fleming get on base, then Julia Ciuetat brings home Kelsey Hill, who was pinch running for Adams, for the winning run. Canterbury wins its first state title, 1-0.
Seventh inning: GP and Canterbury go down in order. Headed to extra innings, folks.
Sixth inning: With one out, GP gets back-to-back singles before Emily Winesett strikes out the final two to end the top half of the inning. Sallen gets her 10th strikeout of the game and we go to the seventh inning.
Fifth inning: GP goes down in order. In the bottom half, Canterbury has its best chance of the game to score. The Crusaders have back-to-back singles from Mallory Posey and Adams. Laurent has a sacrifice bunt, and Jessica Perry, who was pinch running for Posey, is thrown out at home. Then Sallen strikes out Sarah Fleming to end the inning. Scoreless heading into the sixth.
Fourth inning: Grandview Prep has runners at first and third with two outs, then Longstreet gets the next batter to ground out to end the threat. Sallen strikes out three Canterbury batters, but walks Longstreet. Sallen has seven strikeouts in the game. No score going into the fifth inning.
Third inning: Grandview Prep goes down in order in the top of the inning. In the bottom half, Lacy Adams reaches on an error for Canterbury, but on the next play Grandview gets the double play on a groundout by Whitney Laurent. Adams tries for third and is thrown out. Then Sallen strikes out the final batter. Still 0-0.
Second inning: Grandview Prep has one batter reach on a walk, and Canterbury goes down in order. Grandview Prep pitcher Jane Sallen has struck out three so far. Still no score.
First inning: Longstreet and Canterbury get out of the top of the inning unscathed. Longstreet strikes out three and allows a single, then gets the only base hit for Canterbury in the bottom of the inning. No score after one.
