Rays DH Johnny Damon on Thursday tied Sanford's Tim Raines and Hall of Famer Rabbit Maranville for 73rd place on the alltime hit list with 2,605.
Damon is excited to pass Raines, whom he has great respect for and considers the hit king of all players who grew up in the Orlando area.
"Growing up there and knowing that Tim Raines came from up the street, the way he played the game, I had the utmost respect for him,'' Damon said. "I think he's a Hall of Famer, and hopefully it will happen some day soon for him. What he was able to do on the field was just amazing.''
Damon already has a key to the city of Orlando from winning the 2004 World Series, so he said it's up to home clubhouse equipment manager Chris Westmoreland to provide the proper souvenir for this accomplishment.
"I get a nice ball and a plaque that Westy is going to make up for me,'' he said.
