This year thousands of Florida high school students took another stab at passing the exit-level FCAT exam.
Just 15 percent of the 22,336 seniors taking the reading section passed, while 21 percent of the 7,086 seniors taking the math portion passed. (See attachment below for district results.) Last year, the percentages of seniors passing were 16 percent on reading and 28 percent on math.
Locally, the passing rates were:
Hernando - 24 percent reading, 38 percent math
Hillsborough - 18 percent reading, 21 percent math
Pasco - 17 percent reading, 25 percent math
Pinellas - 15 percent reading, 23 percent math
Several underclassmen also took the retakes. Their passing rates were not much better. 29 percent of juniors and 27 percent of sophomores passed the math exam, while 22 percent of juniors and 14 percent of sophomores passed the reading test.
More details as they become available.
