Florida sophomore Patric Young and incoming freshman Brad Beal have been invited to attend the 2011 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Championship training camp, USA Basketball announced today.
The training camp, which will include 15 other invitees, will be held June 17-24 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 12-member team that will represent the USA at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship will be chosen from this group.
The USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee, chaired by NCAA representative and Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, is expected to announce finalists on June 19 for the 12-member team roster. Training camp for the selected finalists will begin on June 19, with the official 12-member USA roster being announced prior to the teams' departure for Europe on June 24.
The 2011 FIBA U19 Men's World Championship will be held June 30-July 10 in Valmiera, Liepaja and Riga Latvia.
"I know Patric and Brad are both excited about this invitation,'' UF coach Billy Donovan said. "It's a unique opportunity for a player, so it's an honor for them to be a part of this group."
