A special session for tougher immigration laws in Fla?

Palm Beach County Republican party chairman Sid Dinerstein plans to ask the state GOP's executive committee tommorow to pass a resolution calling on Gov. Rick Scott to call a special legislative session. The purpose? To pass an E-Verify immigration bill requiring all employeers to use a federal computer system to check the immigration status of all potential hires. You may remember the Florida Senate killed such a measure, despite support from Senate President Mike Haridopolos and Gov. Scott and instead passed a watered down bill dismissed outright by the Florida House.

"We in the grass roots then could go to work turning some votes," Dinsterstein said of the special session. "I'm going to work hard to mobilize the grass roots side of the party who lost to the business side of the party in the session."

Dinerstein said he was neutral in the senate race and downplayed the prospect of a backlash against Haridopolos' U.S. Senate campaign for failing to pass tougher immigration reform: "This was bigger than Mike, or Dean Cannon or even the governor. The was a major effort by businesses to stop it."
