Saying Jeff Atwater was a staunch conservative before the 2010 election made it cool to be one, CFO Jeff Atwater endorsed Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos for U.S. Senate today.
"I'm looking at three things: Are they a conservative? Have they been tested by fire without melting? And can they win,'' Atwater told Buzz at the Florida GOP quarterly meeting in Orlando. In what sounded like a reference to Adam Hasner, Atwater said he wants a conservative who can beat Democrat Bill Nelson and not wait "on somebody who might emerge at some point."
Former Senate President Atwater also dismissed the criticism of Haridopolos' record as senate president coming from Hasner, George LeMieux and other conservative activists: "That was the boldest, most conservative agenda ever passed by a legislature in Florida history."
