House Republicans to smoke out post-session cash in St. Petersburg

State Rep. Jeff Brandes will welcome his fellow Republicans to his hometown next month for the "Inaugural St. Petersburg Cigar Dinner."

The dinner, scheduled for June 7 at the Vinoy Resort & Golf Club, includes a 5:30 p.m. reception on the Mezzanine Terrace and a 7:30 p.m. Cigar Dinner at Fred's Steakhouse.

In addition to Brandes, the Republican Party of Florida fundraiser includes the names of Reps. Will Weatherford, Chris Dorworth and Richard Corcoran - the next three House speakers if all goes according to the GOP plan. The rest of the Tampa Bay House Republican delegation is on the list, too: Reps. Larry Ahern, Jim Boyd, Rachel Burgin, James Grant, Shawn Harrison, Ed Hooper, Seth McKeel, Peter Nehr, Rob Schenck, Jimmie Smith, Greg Stuebe and Dana Young.

Meanwhile, Senate Republicans are planning to grab some post-session cash Monday and Tuesday at their third anual fishing tournament in Boca Grande, the so-called Tarpon Capital of the World.

That event, headlined by Sen. Don Gaetz and Andy Gardiner, includes fellow "Captains" J.D. Alexander, Lizbeth Benacquisto, Ellyn Bogdanoff, Jack Latvala, Joe Negron, Garrett Richter, and John Thrasher.
