OBITUARIES

ALLAERT, Paul W. 80, of Moline, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 10th, 2011 at The Life Path Hospice House in Ruskin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Monday, May 16, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be 2-5 pm Sunday at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St. A, Moline, IL with a Christian Wake service at 1:30 pm. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 227, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline or to St. Ambrose University. Paul is the son of Wilbur C. Allaert and Ruth Taylor Allaert. Paul graduated from United Township High School in 1949. Paul played football for U.T. and earned the nickname "Bulldog" for his tenacity on the field, especially as a kick-off return man. Paul attended Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI and after proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War, he returned to his family home in Carbon Cliff and enrolled at St. Ambrose College, receiving his BA degree in 1956. He joined his father in the family business; Allaert Rendering and served as Plant Manager in Carbon Cliff. Paul was later employed by the Rock Island Arsenal after the closing of Allaert Rendering and held the position of Management Analyst, retiring in 2001. Paul played on the 1951 Quad City Mohawk Football Championship team and was also a very proud member of the Marine Corps League. Paul was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline where he served as a reader, usher and also served on the Parish Council. Paul enjoyed boating and reading and was very proud of his time in the Corps. "Once a Marine, always a Marine". Paul is survived by his sister, Mary Joy Feeney, Rock Island; his four children, Teresa (Michael) Thompson, Lutz, Courtney Allaert, Lithia Springs, GA, John Allaert, Carbon Cliff, Mary (Michael) Childers, Apollo Beach; grandsons, Corey Paul Childers, Stephen and Michael Thompson; granddaughter, Kellie Nally; great grandson, Zakary Nally and special friends of the family, Jeff and Nina Zeglin, Rock Island, Irene Kerr, Moline and Janet Noren of Riverview. BUSCHENA, Arnold J. Jr (Arnie), 90, of Clearwater, passed away May 6, 2011. He was born in Winthrop, Mass. and was a veteran of WWII, severing in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He graduated from the University of Maine with a B.S. degree. He came to St. Pete in 1951 and came to Clearwater in 2001. He worked for Florida Power Corp; retiring after 31 years as a Transmissions Project Engineer. He was a 50 year volunteer in the B.S.A., were he held the Wood Badge and Silver Beaver Award. Survived by 2 sons Arnold J. III, Jacksonville, Paul F., Irvington, KY and a step-son Franklin C. Bowman, Clearwater. He had six grand children and eight great grand children.

CLIFTON, Robert L. 88, of Spring Hill, passed on May 11, 2011. He was a WWII Army Air Corp. veteran of the 509th Composite Group under Col. Paul W. Tibbets. He was originally from Oregon, OH, where he was an Assistant Fire Chief for the Coy Fire Department. He moved to Clearwater and lived in Pinellas County in 1958 to 1991, then moved to the Spring Hill area. He was a member of the East Gate Mason Lodge # 355 of Clearwater. He retired from Eliwitt-Have a Tampa Cigar company as a salesman. Robert graduated from Clay High School in Oregon, OH. His last days were under the care of HPH Hospice. CREWS, Ewell Gene Died April 23, 2011 at the University Community Hospital in Tampa. He was born Feb. 16, 1935 in Lamont, FL to the late Cora and John Crews. He was a star athlete at Hillsborough High School. after graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for over 23 years. He was a Vietnam veteran, awarded the Bronze Star Medal, and many other meritorious citations. He continued his love for country and military affiliation, by being an active member of the Temple Terrace VFW Post 10140, for many years, up until his death. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father Cora & Peter Fernandez, wives, Beryl P. Crews (of 29 yrs) and Ellen B. Crews (of 6 years). He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Kathleen Crews; grandchildren, Kevin, Daniel, Brandon and Kelsey Crews of Illinois; aunt,Louise Hemby and family of Temple Terrace; cousin (whom he considered a brother), James Sheldon Crews, wife Martha, sons Jim, Kim and families of Tampa, with many relatives throughout the south. GUSTAVSEN, Carl David 58, of Tampa, passed away April 12, 2011. Carl was born on July 2, 1952 in Fort Sill, OK to Charles and Marion (Revels) Gustavsen Jr. He was a life long Tampa resident; he was a soldier in the Salvation Army. Carl graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1970 and was employed at Johnson Controls, formerly, Globe Union for 34 years. He was a dedicated body builder who trained alongside the top pro wrestlers. He was an avid gun collector, muscle car aficionado and a consummate prankster. Carl enjoyed helping others any chance he could, sneak in and not be noticed, served for a time in the Krewe of Shamrock. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in September, 1972. "Big Papa" was loved more than he ever knew. He is survived by his wife, Melody Gustavsen; father, Charlie; brothers, Mark and wife, Vickie; Charles and wife, Tammy; daughter, Catrina; "spare" children, Jerry Waldron, Shannan Waldron and Jody Waldron; grandchildren, Kyle Manglesdorf, Kayla Chapman, Lucas Dees, Nickolas Waldron and Anastasia Slaughter; nephew, Matthew; niece, Megan; numerous other loving family members and friends. NOLAN, George F. of Largo, and Wareham, MA. died on May 8, 2011. George was born in Avon, MA, the son of Jack and Rose Brady Nolan, brother of John. In 1991 George moved to Florida with his wife, Marilyn. George is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 51 years; and two sons, Steven and Mark; a daughter-in-law two sisters-in-law; cousins; nephews; nieces and many friends. George graduated from MIT with a Masters degree and a law degree from New England School of Law. He served in both the Marines and Air Force, where he served for a period of time in Japan. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also worked for Air Force Cambridge Research Labs and Geophysics Lab in Bedford, MA, both as an officer and as a civilian through retirement. He then practiced law and taught real estate law, enjoyed traveling with his wife and had many hobbies including raising orchids and reading. Services will be held on Sunday, May 15 from 6-8 pm at the Mohn Funeral Home, 9700 Seminole Blvd., Seminole. On May 16 a Mass will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Largo at 10 am followed by burial at Bushnell National Cemetery. She is survived by her nieces, Adrienne Napoli (Don), Arline Hoskinson, Darcel Schouler (Bob) and Lisa V. Bernard (Scott); nephews, Jason Napoli, Gavin Napoli, grandnephew, Daniel Schouler; grandniece, Jacey Napoli and numerous cousins. Bebe was a true Ybor City native, born and raised in the same neighborhood all her life. Storytelling was her favorite pastime. Ybor City as it used to be, the people and events that made it what it was during her growing up years with her siblings. She loved sports including Yankee baseball, Buccaneer football and even wrestling. She could call up stats about any player like a sportscaster and many a day, screaming matches with the game she was watching and how the players were playing and always a comment on the inability of the coaches to do the correct placement of players and plays. Family gatherings always included poker with her siblings and brothers-in-law and best of all a platter of the best natilla (Spanish custard) in the city. She went peacefully and without pain and for that the family thanks all involved nurses, doctors in Emergency Services, CCU as well as in the inpatient care she received until her last day at St Joseph Hospital. A celebration of her long life will be held at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N Armenia Avenue, Tampa on Monday, May 16th from 10-11 am. Interment will follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.

SETZER, Earlene 94, of Tampa, died May 10, 2011. Born in Bartow, on April 28, 1917, she enjoyed Bridge and beachcombing and shelling, and loved her family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tampa and an Alumnist of Florida Southern College. She predeceased by her husband, David Setzer. Survived by her daughter, Frances Setzer Caramello; son, Andy Setzer, 5 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
