RAPIST IS SENTENCED TO 3 MORE 30-YEAR TERMS

A rapist already serving nine life sentences for a string of sexual assaults in the summer of 2008 was given three more 30-year prison sentences Thursday for a rape in Gibsonton.

Rigoberto Martinez pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery in the Gibsonton attack. Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Chet Tharpe said the three 30-year terms would run concurrently.

Martinez admitted to forcing his way into a Gibsonton home on July 3, 2008. He and an accomplice held a man in the home at gunpoint. Martinez forced a 23-year-old woman from the shower and raped her in the bedroom.

He showed no reaction to the sentencing.

In January, Martinez cried and begged for mercy when Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Emmett Battles gave him nine life sentences for the abduction and rape of two female bartenders in Apollo Beach on Aug. 16, 2008.

The women were abducted by Martinez and two other men, and were raped, tortured and threatened with death.

At sentencing, Battles described the attacks as "unbelievable brutality," "unbelievable cruelty," "unimaginable terror."

Two years ago, Martinez also was given 35 years in prison by a Pinellas County circuit judge for the rape of a waitress at the Table restaurant in St. Petersburg on Aug. 21, 2008.
