Tough morning at the beach

We're not sure if it's safer in or out of the water at Dayton Beach these days, reading news-journalonline.com.

Early Friday morning, a surfer was bitten by a shark while boarding to the beach. It was the second shark bite reported in Volusia County this year. Later in the morning, a beach patrol vehicle ran over the hand of a sunbathing tourist.

Neither was seriously hurt. The surfer, 37-year-old Adrian Bronson, packed up and went to work with a minor puncture of his calf. He didn't even immediately notify the beach patrol. The sunbather, 22-year-old Kelly McNichols of Ohio, screamed after the patrol, 'You ran over my arm!' when the driver didn't seem to notice, a friend said. She initially refused to have her hand checked at a hospital, but later drove herself over.
